UniCredit: launches voluntary early-retirement plan
(CercleFinance.com) - Looking to trim its workforce, UniCredit is offering early-retirement packages to thousands of its staff as part of an agreement signed with trade unions on Thursday.
The biggest Italian lender said 5,200 full time equivalent (FTE) positions will be offered a voluntary pre-retirement plan over the next four years.
The plan also calls for 800 FTEs to be requalified and reskilled for new professional roles.
As part of its agreement with unions, UniCredit has committed to hiring 2,600 people over the next four years to ensure "generational turnover" and "digital" transformation, it said.
In addition, UniCredit is investing in two new client contact and back office centres in Southern Italy.
