Alitalia: EU opens in-depth investigation
(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission has announced opening an in-depth investigation into the loan granted by the Italian State to Alitalia.
The Commission wants to determine whether the loan made by Italy to Alitalia for a total of 900 million euros is help from the State and whether it complies with EU rules on State aid for companies in difficulty.
Commissioner Margrethe Vestager, in charge of competition policy, said: "The Commission has a duty to make sure that loans given to companies by Member States are in line with the EU rules on State aid. We will investigate whether this is the case for Alitalia."
