Mediaset: Amsterdam Court suspends merger project
(CercleFinance.com) - Italy's broadcaster Mediaset said that the Court of Amsterdam has suspended the "Media For Europe" merger project between Mediaset and Mediaset Espana.
The Dutch Court has also requested changes to the structure of the plan, which was already in jeopardy following a judgment by the Court of Madrid, which accepted a request filed by Vivendi in late July.
For the record, the "Media For Europe" project means a cross-border merger between Mediaset and Mediaset Espana into a new holding company incorporated under Dutch law.
The move - considered as a priority for Mediaset - aims to create a pan-European media and entertainment group that has a leading position in local markets and greater scale to compete with rivals such as Netflix.
However, the project is being blocked by the French media giant Vivendi, which has invested over 1.2 billion euros in Mediaset over the past four years.
