Rolls-Royce: partners Sanlorenzo in luxury yachts
(CercleFinance.com) - Rolls-Royce and Italian yacht builder Sanlorenzo plan to develop and build a large motor yacht equipped with a methanol propulsion system capable of operating in a carbon-neutral manner with "green" methanol.
Both companies have announced an exclusive memorandum of understanding to this effect for yachts of 40 to 70 metres in length. Powered by two mtu methanol engines based on the 4000 series, Sanlorenzo's yacht is expected to undertake its maiden voyage in 2026.
Synthetic methanol, produced from electricity generated from renewable sources, is the clear fuel of the future for many marine applications - including yacht propulsion, Rolls-Royce said.
Investors like this deal, with the share sailing off almost 3% this afternoon, well ahead of the market in London.
