Rolls-Royce: engines to be 100%-SAF compatible

(CercleFinance.com) - With the COP26 just weeks away, Rolls-Royce, Airbus and Shell are calling for greater ambition and collaboration in the aviation sector and with governments to facilitate the transition of long-haul aviation to net zero.

The UN's Race to Zero targets aim to achieve a minimum of 10% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) use by 2030 and 100% by 2050. The three companies are calling for this timetable to be accelerated.

Airbus points out that all its aircraft are currently certified to operate on a 50-50 blend of SAF and paraffin. It expects to be certified for 100% SAF use by the end of the decade.

Finally, Shell is committed to producing 2 million tonnes of SAF alone per year from 2025, more than 10 times the total amount of SAF produced worldwide today.

Rolls-Royce, Airbus and Shell shares are respectively pretty flat, up about 0.5% and up about 1.3%.
