LSE: HKEX withdraws merger offer
(CercleFinance.com) - Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing (HKEX) has withdrawn its proposed merger with the London Stock Exchange Group (LSE), the Hong Kong financial market operator announced.
The Asian group unveiled this unsolicited offer on the historic operator of the London Stock Exchange on 11 and 13 September. HKEX still believes that its offer was strategically relevant, although "regrets" that it did not share this view with LSE's management.
In these circumstances, HKEX has therefore decided that it was no longer in the interest of its shareholders to continue with the project.
