Burberry: new chief executive appointed

(CercleFinance.com) - Burberry shares are up in London Stock Exchange today after the group appointed Jonathan Akeroyd, the current boss of Versace, as its new chief executive.

Akeroyd will take over as chief executive of the British luxury house on 1 April 2022, the group said in a statement.

He will replace Marco Gobbetti, whose departure for Ferragamo - planned for the end of the year - was already known.

A British national Jonathan Akeroyd - who is 54 years old - has been in charge of Milan-based brand Gianni Versace since 2016.

Prior to that, he led Alexander McQueen (Kering group) between 2004 and 2016, after starting his career at the London department store, Harrods.

For UBS analysts, his arrival means less uncertainty about the group's future management, as Jonathan Akeroyd is well known in the market for the turnaround he carried out at Versace while respecting the brand's heritage.
