Burberry: buys Italian tannery to secure leather supplies
(CercleFinance.com) - Burberry has reached an agreement to acquire the luxury leather-goods business of its longstanding Italian partner CF&P, in the latest move by a luxury brand to secure supplies of materials.
Thanks to this acquisition, the British fashion house plans to build a centre of excellence for leather goods, covering all activities from prototyping and product innovation, to engineering, it said in a statement.
CF&P employees, including the team of expert craftsmen who have worked closely with Burberry for over a decade now, will be transferred to the company once the transaction is completed, which is due to occur later this year.
The parts of CF&P not included in the transaction will continue to operate as separate entities under the CF&P name, at a different site.
