AstraZeneca: EU approves third dose of Vaxzevria
(CercleFinance.com) - AstraZeneca says that its Covid-19 vaccine, Vaxzevria, has been approved in the European Union (EU) by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) as a third-dose booster in adults.
Healthcare professionals can now use the product as a third-dose booster in patients who have already received a primary vaccination regimen of Vaxzevria or an EU-approved Covid-19 mRNA vaccine.
This authorisation is based on evidence demonstrating an enhanced immune response after a third booster dose with Vaxzevria following a primary vaccination schedule of Vaxzevria or an mRNA vaccine.
AstraZeneca said that Vaxzevria is estimated to have helped prevent 50 million cases of Covid-19, five million hospitalisations and saved over one million lives worldwide, based on model results evaluating Covid-19 worldwide.
