AstraZeneca: names new oncology R&D head
(CercleFinance.com) - British drugmaker AstraZeneca on Monday appointed José Baselga as head of oncology R&D, as part of a bigger organisational shake-up.
José Baselga previously served as the physician-in-chief at cancer center Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) and was professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College from 2012 to September 2018.
Baselga's appointment comes after AstraZeneca decided to separate its research and development business, with one unit responsible for bio-pharmaceuticals and the other for oncology.
The divisions will have mirrored commercial units, the company said in a statement.
"We are entering what we expect will be a period of sustained growth for years to come, which is why we have decided to more closely align our R&D and commercial operations," said CEO Pascal Soriot.
