GSK: to develop a vaccine for coronavirus
(CercleFinance.com) - GSK said on Monday that it will collaborate with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) to develop a vaccine for the novel coronavirus traced back to Wuhan City, China.
The British drugmaker said it will make its pandemic vaccine adjuvant platform technology available to enhance the development of a vaccine against 2019-nCoV.
GSK's vaccines use different adjuvant systems that are added to enhance the immune systems' response, making immunity against infections longer than the vaccine alone.
CEPI is a partnership between public, private, philanthropic, and civil organisations launched at Davos in 2017 to develop vaccines to stop future epidemics.
According to the latest estimates provided by the Chinese authorities, as of Sunday, 17,205 people were listed as having contracted the virus in mainland China, with 361 people having died from the disease.
