Tesco: potential redundancies ahead
(CercleFinance.com) - Tesco is considering laying off several thousand workers at its stores, according to Aurel BGC quoting the Mail on Sunday, redundancies that would be made through the closure of sections such as fish or pastry.
The broker said that the British retail giant is considering outsourcing these sections to third-party retailers. It is also planning to close fresh food shelves and change the opening hours in other cases.
Tesco is trying to simplify the way it conducts its business, Aurel BGC says, adding that up to 15,000 jobs could be threatened - for example, with the replacement of shelves such as bakery, by machines.
