bp: starts production at Oman gas field
(CercleFinance.com) - Oil major bp said Monday that production has started at the Ghazeer gas field in Oman, less than three years after its development was approved.
The project - that was initially expected to come into production in 2021 - has been delivered four months early after wells have been drilled in "record times," the company said in a statement.
Total capacity from Block 61, which comprises both Khazzan and Ghazeer platforms, is expected to rise to 1.5 billion cubic feet of gas a day and more than 65,000 barrels a day of condensate, bp said.
This means that the block has the capacity to cover approximately 35% of Oman's total gas demand, the energy group added.
bp said it now prioritises "value" when it comes to its projects and operations.
