BP: forms electric car charging venture with China's DiDi

(CercleFinance.com) - British energy giant BP and Chinese ride-hailing company DiDi have formed a new joint venture to build charging infrastructure in China, the world's largest market for electric vehicles, BP said on Thursday.

The new joint venture plans to develop a network of charging hubs across the country, BP said.

BP, which has 18,700 fuel retail and convenience store outlets in 18 countries, said it has a "rapidly-growing presence" in China.

On the other side, DiDi's platform already has approximately 550 million users and around 600,000 electric cars operating in China.

The companies said that they plan to expand the venture into loyalty and convenience store offerings, and other fleet services, in the near future.
