BP: production underway at giant Egyptian gas field
(CercleFinance.com) - BP said production has started at the huge Zohr gas field, offshore Egypt, the largest natural gas discovery ever made in the Mediterranean Sea.
The oil major cites "an important strategic milestone," with the project being one of the biggest development programs delivered this year.
The field is operated by Italy's Eni, through a joint venture with Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).
BP said seven new upstream projects have begun production in 2017.
"We're well on the way towards our goal of delivering 800,000 barrels a day production from our new projects by 2020," said Bob Dudley, BP group's CEO.
The Zohr gas field was discovered by Eni in August 2015 and BP bought a 10% stake in the concession from Eni in February 2017.
