Rio Tinto: second-quarter iron ore, copper production up
(CercleFinance.com) - Rio Tinto reported a rise in iron ore and copper production for the second quarter, lifting the global miner's shares in London.
Rio said its Pilbara iron ore production rose 7% to 85.5 million tonnes in the quarter, while mined copper output jumped by 26% to 156,800 tonnes.
In aluminium, output fell 3% year-on-year to 858,000 tonnes.
"Operational performance was solid across most commodities, rounding out a strong first half performance for the group," said Rio Tinto chief executive Jean-Sébastien Jacques.
Rio Tinto's shares, which had been rising 2.5% in 2018, rose by 1.1 per cent after the release, and last traded at 4,047 pence.
