HSBC: Noel Quinn to take CEO role permanently

(CercleFinance.com) - British banking giant HSBC said on Wednesday that Noel Quinn has been appointed Group Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

The lender said Quinn has performed "impressively" since he took on the role of interim CEO in August 2019.

"In the last few months Noel has worked closely with the Board to agree the key actions required to build and enhance performance on a sustainable basis," said Group Chairman Mark Tucker.

Earlier this year, HSBC outlined a revised strategic plan in a major restructuring move that could lead the bank to lay off up to 35.000 employees over the next three years.

Noel Quinn is now in charge of a group that has over 230,000 employees.
