BAE Systems: £2bn more for Dreadnought program
(CercleFinance.com) - BAE Systems today announces that the UK Ministry of Defence has announced over 2 billion pounds of additional funding for the Dreadnought nuclear deterrent submarines that are currently under construction at BAE Systems' Barrow-in-Furness shipyard.
The funding is part of the program's Phase III delivery phase, with total investment estimated at around 10 billion pounds.
BAE Systems says that the Dreadnought program is one of the most complex in the world, with over 1 billion pounds invested in state-of-the-art technology and improved infrastructure at BAE Systems' Barrow shipyard.
Today's funding announcement enables us to continue to invest in the infrastructure and skills needed to deliver these highly complex submarines to the Royal Navy," the group said.
This phase of the program will see the first of the four submarines, HMS Dreadnought, leave the BAE Systems shipyard to begin sea trials. It is expected to be commissioned in the early 2030s.
