Sky: regulator doesn't want takeover by Fox

(CercleFinance.com) - The UK regulators do not want the entire Sky TV group to be bought out.

According to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Fox's total takeover of Sky would be contrary to general interest because of the threats it poses to the plurality of media.

Remember that Walt Disney launched a bid on Twenty-First Century Fox. In this context, Fox would be separated from Walt Disney's interesting assets and would buy the remaining capital of Sky that he does not already hold.

The CMA fears that the through its control of News Corp, Murdoch family already exerts a significant influence on public opinion, and that Fox's full ownership of Sky would further strengthen this situation.

The CMA has said that these are provisional conclusions.
