Suez: to open innovative recovery plant in Belgium

(CercleFinance.com) - The Group will build the first plant in Europe to recover non-ferrous metals from bottom ash produced by waste-to-energy activities.

This plant will be built in the port area of Ghent in Belgium. It will be operational by the end of the year, aiming to increase the pilot site's production capacity ten-fold, processing up to 12,000 tonnes of waste per year by 2019.

Suez will produce new raw materials and alternative energy from waste and particularly from bottom ash, which is residue from the combustion and recovery of waste. It can be used for the construction of roads and landing strips or the production of stackable building blocks mixed with cement.
