Europacorp: bad start for Valérian.
(CercleFinance.com) - Announced as a blockbuster, Valérian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Luc Besson's new film, is not basking in the desired success in the USA.
According to official box-office figures coming out of the States, the film only comes fifth place in the ranking over the period of 21 to 23 July. Shown on 3,553 screens in the US, Valérian and the City of a Thousand Planets has only reaped 17 million dollars in ticket sales this weekend, approximately three times less than Dunkirk, which has raked in 50.5 million dollars in ticket sales.
The latest venture from the director of Subway and The Big Blue is also considerably surpassed by Girls trip (30.4 million dollars in ticket sales), Spider-man: Homecoming (22 million) and The Planet of the Apes 3: Supremacy (20.4 million).
