EDF: wins giant solar contract in Abu Dhabi
(CercleFinance.com) - EDF Renouvelables and its partner JinkoPower have won the tender for the construction of the world's largest solar power plant, the project manager, Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), said on Sunday.
EWEC officially announced the result of the tender, which was finally awarded to the consortium led by diversified industrial group Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and renewable energy specialist Masdar.
The Al Dhafra Solar solar power plant project - located about 35 kilometres away - is expected to supply 160,000 homes with green electricity when it reaches its operational phase at the end of 2022.
The selected consortium is 60%-owned by TAQA and Masdar, with the remaining 40% owned by EDF and JinkoPower, a renewable energy company that develops and operates projects in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
