EDF: inaugurates photovoltaic capacity in Dubai

(CercleFinance.com) - EDF has announced the inauguration of 200 MW of photovoltaic capacity in the Emirate of Dubai, the first tranche of a set of 800 MW, called "Dewa III," for which the French group has teamed up with Masdar and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

Dewa III is the third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Park, which will have a total installed capacity of 5000 MW, hence avoiding up to 6.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, once it is fully operational in 2030.

The DEWA III project was awarded at a very competitive rate of 2.99 cents per kilowatt-hour for solar electricity production. To the 200 MW that is already installed, the group will commission two extra capacity: 300 MW (in 2019) and then in 2020.
