EDF: approaches market in Ghana with OGE

(CercleFinance.com) - One year after EDF and the start-up Off-Grid Electric (OGE) launched their joint off-grid electricity offer (with kits of solar panels and batteries) on the Ivorian market, both partners are making inroads to Ghana.

In Côte d'Ivoire, through their joint venture ZECI, EDF and OGE supply electricity to 10,000 households, or 50,000 people. ZECI has 400 employees and aims for a market share of 20% by 2020.

To serve Ghana, both groups have partnered with local industrial partner CH Group to launch a new off-grid solar kit offer through a joint venture called ZEGHA.

The kits are marketed in the form of a lease over 24 to 30 months, after which the client becomes the owner. The maintenance is provided by ZEGHA for 5 years, EDF detailed. The monthly cost for households varies from 20 euros to 27 euros. ZEGHA aims for a market share of 20% to 25% by 2022.
