Alstom: 300 electric locomotives delivered to India
(CercleFinance.com) - Alstom has announced that it has successfully delivered its 300th electric locomotive to Indian Railways, marking an important step in increasing the Indian Railways' capacity to transport heavy freight trains at high speed.
As part of its E3.5bn contract, Alstom is supplying India with 800 high-powered 12,000 hp (9 MW) double-section locomotives for freight service.
Referred to by Indian Railways as WAG-12B, these locomotives are capable of carrying approximately 6,000 tonnes at a maximum speed of 120 km/h.
