Alstom: commissions hydrogen train in Austria
(CercleFinance.com) - Alstom announces the commissioning of a hydrogen train in Vienna, Austria.
For the very first time, a hydrogen train will provide a regular passenger service for ÖBB, the Austrian railway company, until the end of November.
The Coradia iLint is equipped with fuel cells that enable it to convert hydrogen and oxygen into electricity. The train makes no emissions when in operation.
Its zero-emission propulsion technology offers an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional diesel trains, especially on non-electrified lines, the group said at its launch ceremony in Vienna.
