Alstom: first hydrogen-powered train operational in Germany

(CercleFinance.com) - Alstom has announced that the first hydrogen-powered train in the world, which the group built in Salzgitter, is now operational.


Two of these trains will enter into commercial service on Monday, in line with its schedule, in Lower Saxony.

The railway component manufacturer explains that its train coradia ilint is equipped with fuel cells that transform hydrogen and oxygen into electricity, thereby eliminating the polluting emissions associated with propulsion.

For now, users of EVB's Elbe-Weser network will for the first time in the world travel on these zero-emission and almost noiseless trains which can travel at up to 140 km/h.
