Alstom: automatic testing tests in the Netherlands in 2018

(CercleFinance.com) - On Monday afternoon Alstom announced signing an agreement with the Dutch infrastructure operator Prorail and Rotterdam Rail Feeding (RRF) to test the ATO ("Automatic Train Operation") system this year.

This system automates the train driver's operations, who can then concentrate on monitoring tasks. The tests are expected to optimise the rail network's management, reduce energy consumption and increase driving comfort, therefore providing added value and a modernised rail system.

They will be conducted with a level 2 automation level on the Betuweroute, a 150-kilometre duel carriageway for freight that runs from Rotterdam to Germany, and which is part of the European A Freight Corridor and is equipped with the ERTMS (European rail traffic management system).
