Engie: makes acquisition in solar energy.
(CercleFinance.com) - Engie announced on Thursday that it has signed an agreement to acquire the entire capital of Fenix International, an innovative renewable energy company that offers domestic solar installations in Africa.
Founded in 2009, Fenix employs 350 people and conducts most of its business in Uganda, where it is the main player in the domestic solar installation market with over 140,000 clients. Fenix has recently expanded its operations into Zambia and is also planning new deployments in other African countries.
Its flagship product, ReadyPay Power, provides lighting, charging for smartphones and powers borh televisions and radios.
This investment will contribute to Engie's target of enabling 20 million people worldwide to access carbon-free and decentralised energy by 2020, using the latest digital technologies.
