Saft: supplies batteries for 6 MTG satellites
(CercleFinance.com) - Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, is supplying space-qualified lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries for six satellites that are being commissioned.
Saft is contributing to more accurate weather forecasting through the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellite program.
The new MTG satellites will provide EUMETSAT (European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites) with ten times more data than the previous generation.
In turn, weather forecasting organisations in Europe and Africa will be able to improve the accuracy and timeliness of warnings about extreme weather conditions, saving lives and limiting economic damage.
Saft's VES16 batteries have been chosen to provide uninterrupted power for periods of up to 72 minutes per day when the Earth eclipses the Sun, interrupting power generation from solar photovoltaic panels.
