Orange: lands transatlantic submarine cable
(CercleFinance.com) - Orange today announced that it has landed the "AMITIE" submarine telecommunications cable system on a beach in Le Porge, near Bordeaux.
After two aborted attempts, today's milder weather enabled the landing of this 6,800 km cable, which provides a connection between the state of Massachusetts (US), Le Porge (France) and Bude (England).
Orange is responsible for the French part of the cable and is in charge of the operation and maintenance of the landing station. It will provide the terrestrial links for this system, from this station to Bordeaux, followed by Paris and Lyon, and will connect the rest of Europe through a terrestrial network using state-of-the-art optical technology.
The cable is set to be commissioned in early 2022.
