Renault: Carlos Ghosn charged in Japan

(CercleFinance.com) - In Japan this Monday Renault boss Carlos Ghosn has been charged for concealing revenue, according to the Japanese agency Kyodo and the public channel NHK.

Moreover, according to Japanese media, his detention has been extended for another 22 days - the former strongman of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance has been detained in Tokyo since 19 November. While this morning's charge concerns the remuneration paid by Nissan to Carlos Ghosn between 2010 and 2015, the local prosecutor's office has decided to extend its investigation to the next three years.

Finally, it should be noted that Nissan is also being sued as a legal entity, since this company submitted the reports detailing Carlos Ghosn's remuneration to the stock market authorities. The car maker took note of this decision, saying in a statement that making false statements in annual stockmarket reports undermines the integrity of Nissan's public statements to the markets, while expressing its deepest regret over the matter.

Again according to Japanese media, Nissan could be fined 700 million yen, or 5.44 million euros.

Renault group has not yet made any comments regarding this information.
