Thales: selected by ESA for prototype space station
(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space - a joint venture between Thales (lion's share of 67%) and Leonardo (33%) - today announced that it has been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) for a contract to design and develop a next-generation prototype ground station, called NLES-Next for the European EGNOS satellite navigation system.
NLES is responsible for generating the signals in space used to support critical geolocation applications, such as air navigation and aircraft landing.
Under the contract, Thales Alenia Space will deliver a next-generation NLES prototype combining modularity, flexibility and scalability, as well as a high level of segregation to gradually support new services, such as EGNOS data authentication or Integrity for High Accuracy Service.
