Thales: towards the helicopter autopilot of tomorrow
(CercleFinance.com) - Thales and StandardAero have announced the successful completion of the first flight test of an autopilot system that is expected to lead the Airbus AS350 and H125 helicopters into a new era of performance and safety, Thales said today.
By mid-2021, this new autopilot solution could be integrated into light helicopters, the company said, subject to FAA approval.
Flight tests will continue throughout the winter to certify the installation of this four-axis autopilot system on Airbus AS350 and H125 helicopter platforms.
In addition to increasing stability and maintaining attitude, the system also helps to maintain heading and altitude, providing pilots with a simplified operation that will help reduce wear and tear on the helicopter while making flying in normal and adverse conditions much easier and safer for the crew and passengers, StandardAero said.
