Thales: new contract between Alenia Space and ESA
(CercleFinance.com) - On Thursday Thales Alenia Space (joint venture between Thales, majority shareholder - 67%, and Leonardo - 33%) announced the signing of a new development contract, concerning the EGNOS European navigation system, with the European Space Agency.
"Via this contract Thales Alenia Space will develop a new version of EGNOS (version V242B), incorporating new advanced functionalities," Thales said.
Worth a total of approximately 78 million euros, this contract covers the geographical expansion of the SBAS EGNOS coverage, the implementation of a new generation of reference stations, and improved algorithms in the computation center (CPF) to boost system performance.
This new deveopment is expected to be certified and implemented in 2023.
