Thales: signs contract with European Commission
(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space has signed a contract with the European Commission for the development and construction of an operational ground station on la Reunion Island to monitor the Earth's medium-earth orbit (MEO) satellites of the global navigation satellite system (GNSS).
The ground station will receive and process distress beacon signals of the captured MEO satellites and transmit them to the SAR/Galileo network via the French Mission Control Center (FMCC), which is based on the CNES site in Toulouse.
The company said, "This MEOLUT Next will enhance the Commission's contribution to the Cospas/Sarsat Search And Rescue system by extending its coverage in the South Indian ocean, contributing to worldwide coverage."
