Thales: Alenia Space and Hispasat team up for 4/5G project
(CercleFinance.com) - Hispasat, the Spanish operator of satellite communications, and Thales Alenia Space - a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%) - today announce that they are together preparing a demonstration of a stratospheric balloon dedicated to 4G/5G telecommunications applications.
Scheduled for October in southern Spain, this demonstration will test 4G/5G applications via direct communications between smartphones and HAPS (High-Altitude Pseudo Satellite), which are "represented" by a stratospheric balloon here.
Thales Alenia Space, prime contractor for this demonstration, joins the Spanish company Zero 2 Infinity on this occasion. The Spanish company will provide the stratospheric balloon, while Thales Alenia Space is currently developing the future real large stratospheric balloon, called "Stratobus".
