Imerys: considers sale of Imerys Talc America

(CercleFinance.com) - According to the Bloomberg news agency, Imerys is exploring several options - including the sale - of its subsidiary Imerys Talc America, which has been placed under protection of "chapter 11" of the bankruptcy law at the beginning of the year following a string of cancer lawsuits (c.
14,000 claims relating to J&J baby powder).

Schematically, the talc supplied by this American subsidiary - and also by Johnson & Johnson - is implicated, in the US, by thousands of plaintiffs regarding the potentially carcinogenic role that it could have played, particularly in baby products.

Any proceeds from the sale of this Imerys subsidiary would be used to pay off legal liabilities, Bloomberg adds.
