TotalEnergies: CO2 capture project in Louisina

(CercleFinance.com) - TotalEnergies announced on Monday the launch of a CO2 capture project aimed at decarbonising the production of liquefied natural gas from a terminal in Louisiana, US.

The French energy group explains that it has signed an agreement with the US group Sempra Infrastructure and the Japanese Mitsui and Mitsubishi concerning the development of this project, known as "Hackberry Carbon Sequestration" (HCS), on the Cameron LNG site.

The project aims to capture, transport and store carbon dioxide (CO2) from the terminal for capture via deacidification units, before dehydrating and compressing it.

The carbon will then be transported by pipeline some ten kilometres away and permanently stored in a saline aquifer using a well that can inject up to two million tonnes per year.
