Total: to charter two LNG-propelled vessels

(CercleFinance.com) - Total has signed an agreement to charter its first two VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) type tankers that are equipped with LNG propulsion.

These two ships, which have a capacity of 300,000 tonnes of crude oil each, will be delivered in 2022 and will join Total's charter fleet. These two VLCCs will be chartered from the Malaysian shipowner AET.

Both these LNG-powered VLCCs will be supplied with LNG by its subsidiary, Total Marine Fuels Global Solutions.

These vessels were designed with LNG propulsion to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, and with state-of-the-art technological innovations in order to minimise their own fuel consumption, Total said.

It added that LNG is the best solution immediately available to reduce the environmental footprint of shipping.
