Total: startup of biorefinery in la Mède
(CercleFinance.com) - Total announces that it has started up its biorefinery in La Mède (Bouches-du-Rhône) with the production of the first litres of biofuels, which hence marks the culmination of the conversion of a hydrocarbon refinery into a new energy platform.
Launched in 2015, this project benefited from an investment of 275 million euros. All of these new activities enable 250 direct jobs to be maintained on site. As part of the site's transformation, 65% of the orders were made with local companies.
The biorefinery has a production capacity of 500,000 tonnes of HVO, a premium quality biofuel. It will produce biodiesel and biojet for aviation, and has been specifically designed to handle all types of oils.
