Total: progress in modernisation project in Antwerp.
(CercleFinance.com) - Total has announced that its chemical refining platform in Antwerp has just started the production of ethylene from ethane, a raw material derived from natural gas, the cost of which is beneficial relative to the oil-based raw material.
The oil group has invested 50 million euros to modify one of the platform's two steam crackers, while adapting the site's logistics so that it can import 200,000 tonnes of ethane each year by boat from Norway.
This project is part of a global modernisation of the platform, which also includes the construction of a new refining complex and a unit converting gases recovered during the petrochemical raw material refining process.
