Carrefour: slow start to year

(CercleFinance.com) - Published after trading on Wednesday, Carrefour's Q1 2018 of sales came in at 20.
78 billion euros, up 0.4% at comparable stores and up 2.6% at constant exchange rates compared to the same period last year.

The French retail giant said that it has suffered from markets that overall were less buoyant in Europe, particularly because of adverse weather conditions, which particularly affected non-food, as well as its hypermarket format. Carrefour also lamented food deflation that remains significant in Brazil, coupled with continued competitive pressure on its main markets.

Sales in France fell by 0.1% (at constant stores) to 9.49 billion euros, although rose by 0.9% at constant currencies. International sales reached 11.29 billion euros, up 0.7% and up 4% at constant exchange rates, including 5.54 billion euros in Europe (-0.8% and +2.8% at constant exchange rates), 3.98 billion euros in Latin America (+4.5% and +9.1% at constant currencies) and approximately 1.78 billion euros in Asia (-10.9% and -4.5% at constant currencies).
