Carrefour: reaction to 'Lactalisgate'

(CercleFinance.com) - While the case of contaminated milk has hit the headlines, with many of Carrefour's competitors, such as Leclerc and Intermarché, have admitted to selling the product after its prohibition, Carrefour has issued a statement this Thursday.

The French distribution giant has made it clear that as soon as its supplier Lactalis alerted it, it immediately recalled the batches concerned in its stores, resulting in the actual withdrawal of 94,959 products.

As a precautionary measure, and following Lactalis' successive reminders, Carrefour had also decided to extend its recall to all baby products manufactured by the Craon plant (Mayenne).

A control plan has been executed in all the stores to ensure the removal and destruction of the products concerned. However, despite these due diligence measures, 434 products were sold after the recall, Carrefour admitted, which has said that it continues to contact its customers in order to arrange for the products concerned to be returned.
