Carrefour: company approached by Amazon?
(CercleFinance.com) - French daily, Le Monde believes that Amazon is on the look-out for about fifteen "physical" establishments in France - particularly in the Paris area.
However, this would not be all: "more globally, the American giant approached French retailers to establish partnerships or make an acquisition in France," the newspaper writes.
Le Monde also says that Amazon has contacted Casino about its subsidiary Monoprix, which has a strong presence in city centres, although it has not replied.
Amazon would have contacted most French general retailers, including companies such as Intermarché and Système U also being cited, even though they did not welcome this. In the UK, the store Morrisons also appears to be amongst groups that have been approached.
Yesterday, the Casino and Carrefour shares respectively jumped 4% and 2.7%, and are only down slightly (around 1.5%) at midday today.
