Air Liquide: towards acquisition of site in South Africa

(CercleFinance.com) - Air Liquide has announced that it has signed an exclusive negotiation agreement with Sasol for the French industrial gases group's acquisition of the world's largest oxygen production site, located in Secunda, South Africa.

Under the terms of the agreement, Air Liquide will operate the 16 air separation units of this site, corresponding to a capacity of 42,000 tonnes/day, in addition to the unit that it already operates there, and would launch a multi-year plan to modernise these facilities.

The solution proposed by Air Liquide would make it possible to aim for a 30% to 40% reduction in CO2 emissions associated with oxygen production by 2030. The initial investment would amount to approximately 8.5 billion rand (i.e. about 440 million euros).
