Air Liquide: collaboration with thyssenkrupp Steel
(CercleFinance.com) - Air Liquide and thyssenkrupp Steel announce a collaboration to achieve low-carbon steel production using hydrogen injection to partially replace pulverised coal at a large scale in the blast furnace during steel production.
When the pilot phase is complete, which will take place in autumn 2019, the French industrial gas group will provide a stable supply of hydrogen from its 200-km rural network in the Rhine-Ruhr area.
This solution will be put in place in one of thyssenkrupp's blast furnaces in Duisbourg. The German company wishes to reduce its CO2 emissions linked to the steel-production process by up to 20%.
