Air Liquide: starts up huge oxygen production unit

(CercleFinance.com) - This morning Air Liquide has announced the startup of the largest oxygen production unit in the world, in South Africa.

Located in Secunda, near to Pretoria, this air separation plant, which has required an investment about 200 million euros, can produce 5,000 tonnes of oxygen per day. The plant is operated by Air Liquide - its client (Sasol) "has chosen to outsource to a specialist of industrial gas production at this site," the French group explained.

As scheduled, the new unit has been completed in less than three years for Sasol, the South African petrochemical group, considering that large amounts of oxygen are required to produce fuels and chemicals. Air Liquide has delivered its 17th air separation unit to Sasol in 40 years, representing a cumulative production of over 45,000 tonnes.
