Air France-KLM: Liberation says B. Smith appointed tomorrow

(CercleFinance.com) - According to information from the newspaper "Libération," three months after the resignation of Jean-Marc Janaillac, tomorrow afternoon Air France-KLM's board of directors will endorse the appointment of Air Canada's current number 2 at the helm of the group.

Again according to "Libé," this appointment will be made, even though all directors will not be present at the meeting, with "many of them," absent from Paris and participating in this board meeting by telephone. The group's governance should be renewed, the paper says.

Benjamin Smith's pay could reach "about 3.3 million euros a year," a sum three times higher than that of his predecessor, although only 20% higher than his current salary, the paper says. This sum will be divided into three parts (one third fixed, one third according to targets and another third after 3 years).

If he is appointed tomorrow, Benjamin Smith will probably have to immediately deal with the group's unions. Remember that last weekend, Philippe Evain, head of the SNPL (national union of airline pilots) said in Le Parisien that pilots are ready to take 15 days of strike action if the new boss did not resume talks on pay.
