Nokia: selected for Rakuten Mobile Optical network
(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia announced on Tuesday that it has been selected by the Japanese online retail giant Rakuten to set up the optical network system from which its mobile phone subsidiary, Rakuten Mobile, is to establish its new 5G network.
In a statement, Nokia explains that Rakuten Mobile has chosen its portfolio of photonic service switches, 1830 Photonic Service Switch, to equip its data transport network with mesh.
As a newcomer to the Japanese mobile phone market, Rakuten Mobile aims to create the first fully virtualised "cloud" mobile network.
